Laura Kamugisha is a Congolese-Rwandan filmmaker based in Montreal, Canada.

An architect of the intangible, her artistic practice navigates hybrid forms, where realism meets the dreamlike. She is drawn to stories that are passed down, transformed, and sometimes left unspoken, to the connections between inheritance and identity, and to the traces history leaves in our imaginations and intimate narratives.

A graduate of Concordia University’s Film Production program, she has directed several short films that have screened at festivals including Les Lavandières (TIFF Next Wave, VIFF, FNC 2023), Trait d’Union (RIDM 2020), and Mitochondrial (FNC 2020). Her latest film, Cueilli sous le bananier (Under the Banana Tree), a short documentary, is currently making its festival run and will premiere at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM).
